Make or Break – SERIES: Consecrated (8/19/2012)

Posted on August 19th, by dhamilton in Listen, The Church. No Comments

What do you do when stuff from your past presents itself and makes you feel guilty (8/19/2012)? That was the question Kent dealt with this week as we studied 2 Chronicles 29:3-11 and looked at how Hezekiah and the priests of his day dealt with their sinful history. God is longing to use you, we just need to get to the point where we will let him. This sermon ended with a time of public confession of sin, God showed up and people came forward confessed their sins in front of one another. This is not a normal sermon – but it ended powerfully!

Mass Vass – SERIES: Top Shot (6/10/2012)

Posted on June 10th, by dhamilton in Listen, The Church. No Comments

This week (6/10/2012) begins the first in a series called “Top Shot: taking your shot at being a Godly man”. Kent compared King Saul and future King David from 1 Samuel 18 to look at what it is to be a Godly man. This sermon challenged us all to not be so caught up in trying to be somebody, rather trying to be somebody’s.

Early Non-Christian Evidence of Jesus & Early Christians

Posted on April 22nd, by epic in Equipping. No Comments

As I was preparing for this last Sunday’s sermon, I ran across this article on early non-Christian source witnesses that is pretty interesting.  It outlines some of the more famous non-Christian accounts that reference Jesus as a real person along with the activities of early 1st century Christian.  Here is a separate article that gives credence to the historicity of the Bible.  I think it’s well written and very informative.

At some point, you have to deal with the historical evidence and soon thereafter you have to deal with the claims of Christ… It is my hope this helps you to be sure that when you give your life to Christ – it really matters, He was real and still is real and He can literally change your life!

God Loves Us? I Doubt It… (4/15/2012)

Posted on April 17th, by dhamilton in Listen, The Church. No Comments

Pain is a part of the human existence – some have used this as a proof that there is no God or if there is that He is not loving or caring. This week (4/15/2012), Kent explores this issue and gives a different way (a biblical way) of thinking about pain and suffering in the world and God’s response to it. This message came on the heels of a tornado striking Wichita, Kent references the fact that he did not do his sermon in it’s entirety in order to spend time praying for the community. To see the notes that fill out the sermon, click on this link to see how God deals with pain and suffering.

God Love us? I Doubt It (the notes for the sermon today)

Posted on April 15th, by epic in Epic Church. No Comments

Today at Church we took time to pray for the tornado victims so we didn’t have time to go through the fill in the blanks at church.  I promised I would put them on the internet today, so, here they are:

The whole premis of my sermon was that if God is love, then why do so many bad things happen to people.  This concept has been called “the problem of pain”.  Here is the…

THE PROBLEM:
If God is love, why does he let pain and suffering exist in our world?
-Pain is like some kind of giant uncontrollable wildfire – God is the one who has the ability to fight this fire.  So, why doesn’t He?  This is the question we have to ask and deal with…

1.  God didn’t start this fire…

Romans 5:12

Forgiveness Part 2 – a follow up to a sermon I preached…

Posted on March 4th, by epic in Epic Church. No Comments

So, a week ago Sunday I nixed a sermon I was going to preach as a follow up to a sermon on forgiveness, and I promised I would write a blog post with the follow up. So, here it goes:

Previously at EPIC: We had explored the idea that when we choose not to forgive, that we are really choosing not to trust God. When you get right down to it, forgiveness is essentially the action of giving up our right to revenge and trusting that God will repay whoever for any injustice done to us. This is important for us to grasp, that forgiveness is trust in God.

It is easy to understand how to forgive, but for some of us the question is more about “why I should forgive?”. I mean, let’s be honest … Read More »

Posted on September 7th, by epic in Epic Church. No Comments

———– ARE YOU OVERSENSATIONALIZING IT? "Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent." 30 So they asked him, "What miraculous sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do?" John 6:29-30 IS YOUR HEART HAS HARDENED? You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. 15 For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Matt 13:14-15 ARE YOU BEING OBEDIENT?
